Self-installation of platbands on interior doors. Assembling the door frame Aligning the plane of the casing with the wall

Platbands are overhead profile strips that are intended for decorative framing of a window or doorways. Wooden platbands allow you to close any gaps that form between the window frame and the wall. Door platbands are accordingly designed to perform such work, only the gaps are closed between the wall and the door frame. The use of platbands.
It will allow you to hide even significant construction defects that arose for a number of reasons - for example, after the "shrinkage" of the building or a marriage made during construction.
The shape of the platband can be almost any. But the most common forms of architraves are rounded, flat or figured (or, as they are also called, “carved” architraves, which are an exclusive material).
Today on the market building materials provided a great variety of types of platbands made of any materials - MDF platbands, veneered platbands, steel and aluminum platbands, PVC platbands. PVC platbands, by the way, are by far the most popular among buyers and the cheapest in price.
When choosing platbands, special attention should be paid to its quality. In addition, all types of platbands are made to order. The cost turns out to be slightly higher than the market one - but the customer can be 100% sure of the quality of such a platband, and in case of detection of any defect, there will always be an opportunity to return it back. Since such masters value their reputation very much.
All types of platbands can be fastened with screws, self-tapping screws, nails and special glue designed for this type of work. Installation of platbands must be done very carefully to avoid damage to it. If you are not sure that the work on installing the casing can be done on your own, then it is better to contact a specialist - a carpenter.
After the platbands are installed on windows or doors, they will give a finished look to the facade of the building or its interior decoration.
The trim for interior doors comes with the doors themselves, in some cases it comes separately, but is bought in the same place as the doors. The color of the platband must match the color of the door leaf and door frame.
The casing consists of different materials mainly from MDF and chipboard, as well as from wood (solid or glued), covered with veneer, laminated film, varnish.
The platband is of two types semicircular and rectangular. The semicircular middle is thicker than the edges; it narrows from the middle. Rectangular consists of right angles. The thickness of the middle and edges is the same. There are also patterned platbands, as a rule, they are included in the kit for expensive interior doors. The minimum and main size (width) of the platband for interior doors in our time is 70 mm. The platband 80 mm is less common.
The platband is sawn on the interior doors in two ways: at 45 and 90 degrees. The main more popular way to wash down is at 45 degrees, since this platband goes to inexpensive and average prices for interior doors. On expensive doors, there is mainly a platband with a cut at 90 degrees. It is better to cut the casing with a professional tool - this is a miter saw, but it is also possible with a manual one - a miter box and a hacksaw.
Cashing an interior door is a very long and painstaking work, since each stick of the casing is sawn individually. and it is impossible to allow the slightest error when cutting down the angle of joining the casing.
The installation of platbands helps to close the holes between the door frame and the wall, and they are also designed to decorate the openings. Platbands are divided into external and internal. The outer casings look more massive. Platbands are installed using pine or spruce boards.
External platbands have various threads, as well as overhead parts. The carving happens relief and through types. It is done using jigsaws and drills of different diameters, semicircular and flat chisels.
The platband is installed either to the floor or with a small indentation of 15-20 cm. The empty space below is closed with a thick blank. This is necessary to protect the casing from wear and tear, and to give the opening a beautiful look. The platbands are of a smooth type and have selected molds, they are more beautiful. Door platbands are painted in the color of the door, but they can be painted in other colors at the request of the customer.
The installation of platbands originates from the determination of the length. The platband is sawn at a certain angle. On the prepared holes for nails, the platband is fixed. Installation of platbands should be carried out with the lower ends fixed to the floor. To facilitate repairs, you can also leave room for a large platband, called a bedside table. Installation of platbands should be carried out before the plinth fixings. Door frames are nailed to the boxes with flattened nails.

How to install platbands: at an angle of 90 or 45 degrees?

Door platbands are an important element in the appearance of the door. Platbands highlight, emphasize the door in the interior. Great importance has the angle at which they are joined: at an angle of 90 degrees or 45. In which cases this or that option is appropriate, we will analyze in this small material.

The standard width of the architraves is 70 mm, but they can be wider. The shape distinguishes between rounded, flat and embossed. According to the method of attachment, conventional and telescopic.

At an angle of 45 degrees, any platbands are joined.
This classic version connection of platbands with each other. For classic doors with curved lines in the design, this is the only option. With this method of installing platbands, cutting them at a given angle plays a very important role. The cut should be as even and clear as possible. If the walls are curved, then a slope or offset in the cut will be required. In general, in the end there should be a perfect joint. Otherwise, gaps and chips will be very noticeable, especially on light doors.

Only flat platbands are joined at a right angle.
For installation of platbands at 90 degrees, only platbands specially made for this are suitable. This means that the shapes of the joints of the platbands must be the same. In rounded or figured architraves, the saw cut shape differs from the shape of the side part. Moreover, even flat architraves have a slight rounding at the corners. Therefore, the upper trim must be thinner than the side ones so that it is slightly recessed. Otherwise, the end of the platbands will be exposed.
At a right angle, platbands are installed on the door in modern style with straight lines. The right angle of the architraves, as it were, complements the right angles of the door structure.

Recently, manufacturers have begun to produce flat platbands designed only for installation at a right angle. This means that in a set for one door of 5 platbands, one will be thinner than the others. Installers need to be careful not to cut in half the thick platband, which is lateral.

Another upper casing is installed at a right horizontal angle. This is how capitals and cornices are installed - decorative platbands.

At what stage of the repair should you start installing trims... trims on doors, trims at 45 degrees, do-it-yourself trims, ... interior doors, installation...

The platband is a door element that performs a decorative function, closing the seam between the doorway and the frame. depends on the quality of its installation. appearance doors, so you need to approach this process responsibly.

Types of platbands

Platbands differ from each other depending on the material from which they are made. They can be made from:

  • tree;
  • plastic;
  • metal.

Each of the materials used has its own characteristics. Metal platbands are made of aluminum or steel.

Plastic has a large selection of colors. They are cheap, their installation is carried out using liquid nails. Plastic cashing is flexible, so it is successfully used on uneven walls.

Platbands from MDF have their own nuances when fastening. When using nails, blind holes must be made under them so as not to damage the material during the nailing process.

The form of platbands can be:

  • flat;
  • curly;
  • rounded.

Flat and rounded can be purchased at any store. Figured, as a rule, are made to order.

Depending on the method of installation, the following types are distinguished:

Mounting methods

Do-it-yourself fastening of platbands can be done in two ways:

How to install platbands depends on their type and material of manufacture. So, telescopic fasten only on liquid nails. You can install the rest in one way or another.

Mounting Features

Installation of cashing is carried out after installing the door and finishing the walls of the room, but before installing the plinth. If the box is placed correctly and is flush with the wall, then it will not be difficult to nail the trim with your own hands.

If cashing needs to be fastened on both sides of the door, then start with the one where the hinges are. In this case, when fastening, one feature must be taken into account. It is not possible to mount the platband flush with the door frame, because the fittings will interfere. Therefore, a few millimeters are indented from the corner of the door frame. This distance is maintained when attaching the horizontal and second vertical strips. Installation of platbands on doors with reverse side produced without this indent.

Docking platbands

The vertical and horizontal planks must fit together properly to ensure an attractive doorway. Platbands can be fastened by docking them together at an angle of 90 or 45 degrees.

Washed down at a 90-degree angle is used when the shape of the cashing of interior doors is flat, that is, it is a rectangle in the cut. In this case, the docking seams will be located horizontally or vertically, it does not matter. After sawing, the sections are processed acrylic paint or varnish. An angle of 90 degrees is also suitable for decorating with a capital - a decorative element that gives a luxurious look to the door.

An angle of 45 degrees is used when mounting figured and rounded platbands. It ensures perfect joining of horizontal and vertical strips. You can make such an angle using a miter box, a jigsaw or an ordinary hacksaw, drawing a cut line.

Tools for the job

Installation of platbands is carried out using the following tools:

  • pencil, square;
  • roulette;
  • miter box;
  • hammer, nails.

Instead of a miter box, a jigsaw or a hacksaw is quite suitable.

Mounting process

Do-it-yourself installation of platbands begins with measurements. It is necessary to correctly and accurately measure the height of the opening. This can be done with a tape measure, after which you transfer the measurement to the bar or attach the cash to the opening and, in fact, mark the place where you want to make the inside of the corner washed down. outside corner is defined as follows. The width of the platband is added to the inner side and a place is marked on its outer side.

Do the same with the second vertical bar. Do not blindly transfer the opening height values obtained when measuring the first casing. The distance from the floor to the top of the opening may vary.

In order to correctly mark the horizontal bar with your own hands, the vertical ones are baited on two carnations: one is nailed near the floor, and the second - at a distance of a meter from the first. The vertical bar is pre-prepared by making it washed down at 45 degrees on one side. It is applied to the installation site, leading behind a vertical bar where there is no saw cut and, in fact, mark the angle that needs to be made.

After marking and sawing the corners of the plank, you need to nail it with nails or glue it around the perimeter of the doorway. A fastening step of 15-20 centimeters is used for doors that are often used. For balcony or pantry doors, 50 centimeters between the carnations will be enough.

Elimination of defects

If this is your first time doing the installation of platbands with your own hands, then not everything can be perfect. The cracks formed as a result of an incorrect gash can be hidden with wood putty or a wax corrector, choosing the desired color.

Telescopic architraves

Telescopic architraves are installed on interior doors with the help of special slots and grooves, which are provided at the manufacturing stage. Their peculiarity lies in the fact that fastening is possible only on a perfectly flat surface. Otherwise, gaps will be noticeable, and the appearance of the doorway will leave much to be desired.

Do-it-yourself installation of telescopic architraves is possible on doors with different opening widths. This is achieved due to the fact that the slot can be inserted into the groove not completely if the opening is larger than provided standard size. If it is smaller, then the protrusion can be filed.

For openings with very thick walls, the width of the uncovered area is hidden using telescopic extensions.

Do-it-yourself installation of platbands on interior doors is not a difficult process. Knowing the installation process and types of cashing, you can choose suitable option in each specific case.

Buying new door, you need to think about the installation process. You can invite specialists, but if you want to save as much as possible, you can always do the installation yourself. Let's talk about the specifics of such work in detail.

Installing the door frame is a crucial step. Everything depends on the correct installation. door block.

special attention requires the installation of a door frame. The operational properties of any door depend on this. Consider different options for installing the box, taking into account the complete set of the door block and the material used for production.

In order for the installation of the door block to be successful, everything must be carefully thought out, measured, and selected. Examine the opening that you plan to cover with a beautiful facade. In old rooms, walls and openings do not have perfect lines. The same can be said about new houses. Measurements of the opening must be thorough from all sides.

Depends on the measurement accuracy right choice door frame and canvas.

If the door is not made to individual sizes, you must choose a ready-made version that has certain standards. After taking measurements, you can understand what to do with the doorway, which should not differ much in size from the standard canvas. For example, with a portal width of 900 mm, it is possible by 800. The remaining millimeters will be required for the door frame, technological gaps.

Having determined the size of the product, we select the complete set of doors. On the shelves of hardware stores you can find three types of kit:

  • single leaf - you need to buy a door frame yourself (usually this wooden beam without decorative finishes), hinges, lock, extensions, platbands;
  • leaf with a door frame made of the same material (solid, MDF), can be equipped with platbands;
  • a complete set of the door block in the form assembled at the factory - installation requires only forces and assistants to level the door.

The choice of product depends on the consumer. the longest and in a complicated way the installation of the box is the purchase of the first version of the door, when all the elements of the block must be bought and assembled by yourself. Therefore, we will dwell on this option in more detail. After studying our instructions, you can install any door without involving unauthorized persons.

Installing the door frame from the first to the last step

Suppose that the walls of the doorway are already prepared for installation work, the doors are selected in accordance with the size of the opening. For clarity of the process, a separate canvas and timber for the box was chosen.

The installation of the door frame takes place in several stages, starting with the preparation of tools and sawing off excess length from the frame slats.

We will prepare a place for the location of all the necessary elements. For this, a flat floor covered with cardboard or oilcloth is suitable.

For installation, we will prepare the following items:

  • canvas;
  • timber - 3 pcs.;
  • extensions, if the wall is wider than the door frame;
  • platbands;
  • loops - 2 pcs. (for interior doors), 3 pcs. (for input);
  • lock;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • dowels;
  • electric saw or hacksaw with fine teeth;
  • miter box, square, tape measure;
  • drill with different nozzles and drills;
  • screwdriver with nozzles;
  • hammer or mallet;
  • any building level;
  • polyurethane foam with or without a gun;
  • masking tape, so as not to stain the surface or fix some elements.

We have listed everything and in general. Now let's look at the installation of the door frame in stages.

Preparing the elements

  1. Unpack the door leaf, door frame elements (if they are included).
  2. Inspect the product and accessories for completeness and the absence of marriage. After installation, it will not be possible to return a defective door.
  3. Remove the door leaf to the side, we will need it later.
  4. Lay out the timber for the box on the floor. If parts for the frame are purchased separately, they must be adjusted to the size of the canvas and opening.

This is where the assembly process begins. There are several ways to assemble the vertical and horizontal racks of the door frame:

Groove assembly

This method involves the connection of elements with an overlap. A certain groove must be made in the vertical bar, allowing you to connect the vertical bar to the horizontal flush.

One way to install a door frame is to assemble the elements into a groove.

Many factory models provide just such an assembly option. You can also make a groove with your own hands if the racks are assembled from construction timber, and not MDF blanks.

To begin with, we will make measurements in order to file the parts to the desired length. We measure the doorway at several points. We take a smaller result as a basis, not forgetting to leave a distance for polyurethane foam. It is also necessary to know the dimensions of the door leaf, adding clearances for the free movement of the door in the box. 3-5 mm is enough on each side. We take as a basis a door leaf 800 mm wide and 2000 mm high. The door frame must have the following dimensions:

  • for a door with a threshold - 806x2006 mm;
  • without a threshold, we take into account a larger gap for opening the canvas - 806x2010 mm.

With a threshold, a door to the bathroom and toilet is usually installed.

Installation of an interior door with a threshold is required only for the bathroom and toilet.

The rest of the openings do not require a threshold for movement to be unobstructed.

How to correctly measure the opening, calculate the size of the vertical and horizontal bars can be viewed in the video plot presented at the end of the article.

  1. In the upper part of the vertical racks we make recesses for installing a horizontal bar, which should stand up. The length of the horizontal bar is calculated taking into account the thickness of the beam and the recess in it. If the width of the entire box is to be 806 mm, the horizontal bar will be smaller. Let's assume that the beam has a thickness of 30 mm. In each rack we will make a groove of 10 mm. So, 806-20 \u003d 786 mm is the length of the horizontal bar installed in the groove.
  2. We mark the size of the groove on the vertical slats of the box, making an indent of 10 mm from the outer edge and 30 mm from the top end.
  3. Carefully remove the marked part of the beam. Do the same with the second column.
  4. We check the connection of the elements and the conformity of the size.
  5. We connect the elements with self-tapping screws, pre-drilling holes with a drill.

The first way to assemble the door frame is completed.

The second way to assemble the elements of the door frame.

This method has a slight difference in sawing rack elements.

  1. Measurements are carried out by the same method as in the above-described version of the assembly of the box into the groove. The only difference is the length of the horizontal bar. It should be full width, i.e. 806 mm, because the edges will be filed at 45 degrees.
  2. After the beam has been sawn to the desired length, it is necessary to make cuts at the required angle. To do this, take the miter box, which will become a template. If there is no such tool, make a drink by eye.
  3. We connect the elements with self-tapping screws, driving them inward at an angle of 45 degrees.
  4. Check the dimensions again.

Perhaps this is the most easy way door frame.

Assembling the box at an angle of 90 degrees is the easiest and most affordable way to assemble the box with your own hands.

For self-assembly He fit better all options. It does not require special skill and special tools.

  1. Only the horizontal bar needs to be sawn off a little smaller, given the thickness of the vertical racks. In our case, this is 60 mm, i.e. 806-60 = 746 mm.
  2. Connect all the elements together with self-tapping screws. Use two pieces on each side. Remember to drill holes so that the timber does not crack. Drive the caps of the self-tapping screws inside the timber.

Choose any way you like to assemble the door frame.

  • installing only the box in the opening, and then hanging the canvas;
  • installation of the complete set.

The second option is usually used, because it is quite difficult to hang the canvas after mounting the box in the opening and it is within the power of specialists.

Installation of fittings and door leaf in the box

Hinges must be screwed to the assembled frame. The hinges may be different, but despite this, the installation of the hinges is not much different:

  1. We make markings on a vertical rack, taking into account the direction of opening the door leaf. Step back 200 mm from the top edge and attach the loop bar to the beam. With a pencil, circle the outline along which we will make a recess to secure the loop. Do the same markup for the bottom loop.
  2. Using a chisel, chisel and hammer, remove the excess wood to get the desired groove.
  3. Try on the loop, if everything is fine, fasten it into the seat.
  4. We will do the same manipulations with the canvas.
  5. After mounting with a loop, we lay the canvas inside the door frame.
  6. We check the presence of the necessary gaps, we put cardboard so that the canvas does not move during the installation of the block in the opening.

The most crucial moment comes - the installation of the kit in the doorway.

Installing the box in the doorway

At this stage, you need to call an assistant.

The stage of installing the box in the interior opening is the most difficult moment. Be patient, attentive, careful.

The door block is quite heavy, and the work must be done with maximum precision.

  1. Raise the product to a vertical position and transfer to the opening.
  2. Install in the opening, sliding to the extreme point of the wall. If the width of the box timber is not sufficient to cover the entire wall, it is necessary to install door extensions at this stage.
  3. Using any convenient level, we expose the door block in the opening. For fixing, take wedges, which, after fixing the box to the walls, can be removed.
  4. Place spacers on all sides, adjusting the level of vertical and horizontal planes.
  5. After making sure that the door block is installed correctly, fix the frame with self-tapping screws to the wall. To do this, drill holes in the uprights and the wall. It is better to fix the metal box to the anchors in pre-installed dowels.
  6. It is also necessary to fix the horizontal bar. It is enough to use two self-tapping screws for each rack. They securely pull the door frame to the walls.
  7. Check the operation of the door leaf. It should not touch any of the pillars.
  8. Let's move on to the lock on the door. We have already talked about how to do this in one of our articles.
  9. The last stage of installing the door frame with the leaf comes - foaming all the gaps. Do not rush to squeeze out a large amount of foam. It has the property of swelling, which can lead to deformation of the rack elements. Do this in small portions, moving from bottom to top. The foam should fill all the gaps, providing thermal and noise insulation for any door. Before blowing the foam, cover the racks of the box with masking tape to avoid damaging the surface.
  10. After drying, remove the protruding foam with a clerical knife.
  11. It remains to install.

The installation of the door block is now complete. You can do all the work with your own hands, because it is not difficult, having such a guide.

How much can you save on self-installation of any door?

Not all door manufacturers or sellers offer free installation. The price of installing a door frame and leaf sometimes reaches high levels. On average, the prices for the services of specialists vary depending on the cost of the goods and the complexity of the work. The figure can reach half the price of a door block. The cheapest door in a complete set will cost at least 6,000 rubles. So, the installation will be within 3000 rubles. We took the average value for the service of installers. The price can be high. Therefore, the savings when installing a door frame with your own hands are significant. And if not one door is bought, but all? You can calculate the result yourself.

A double-leaf door is installed similarly to a single-leaf door, requiring only more time and hanging two canvases.

There are no difficulties. Using the installation example discussed in our article, you can install an MDF door frame with your own hands. It usually corresponds to the size of the selected product and problems should not arise.

How to eliminate the gaps after installing the doors and give them an aesthetic appearance? For these purposes, specialists use platbands. Their main function is to hide defects and cracks that appeared during installation. Installing trim for interior doors is a responsible process that requires experience and skill from the master.

What are cashiers

The construction market is represented by a wide range of overhead slats. They differ in:

  • functions performed: constructive, decorative;
  • color scheme;
  • shape: flat, rounded, curly;
  • texture: simple planks, carved frames made according to patterns;
  • sizes;
  • installation method: overhead, telescopic;
  • material: wood, metal, aluminium.

Finishing should be selected based on personal preferences, as well as taking into account the features of the interior, the exact installation site. When buying platbands, it is important to correctly determine the material. Any type of raw material has its pros and cons.

Wooden

Ten years ago, this view was the only option for decorating a door. But, despite the improvement of the construction industry, it is up to today is in demand. The main advantage is versatility: wooden planks are suitable for any type of door structure.

They may differ from others in their appearance. Depending on the taste of the consumer, the decor can be carved, with figures of various shapes.

The lack of wooden architraves on the door is the need to update them. But this is not a reason to refuse them. Modern platbands are made in such a way that they can be easily restored, puttied, applied paintwork.

MDF

Most people compare this material with fiberboard. On the one hand, they are similar in properties. On the other hand, the latest technologies are used in the production of MDF, providing more high quality material.

MDF architraves are suitable for installation outside wet areas

MDF is a medium density fibreboard. According to the degree of environmental friendliness, it is the same as a tree. And veneered MDF is even outwardly difficult to distinguish from it.

Overhead planks made of MDF are preferred because of their low cost and durability. But when choosing, it must be borne in mind that it has poor moisture resistance. Therefore, it is not recommended to install it in rooms such as a bath, a toilet.

Plastic

Such strips are made of durable plastic, which is not subject to changes under the influence of climatic factors. During operation, they do not fade, do not melt. In addition, they do not require special care. Wet cleaning once a week is all that is required of you.

Plastic architraves have high moisture resistance

Due to the low price, good moisture resistance plastic trim found a wide range of consumers. However, there are negative points.

The disadvantage of this decor is a small selection of models, as well as colors. Usually white and several shades of brown are sold. Platbands of other colors are made to order.

Trim cutting methods

It depends on how carefully the master cuts the components of the structure. appearance cashing out. You can cut in several ways using:

  • end electric saw;
  • chairs, hacksaws.

To make the cut as even as possible, without chips, roughness, experts recommend using a professional electric saw. In this case, the device must be in good working order. If saw blade curve, blunt or even a slight runout of the bearing, the result will be far from desired.

With the help of a professional saw, you can get a perfectly even cut.

However, you need to know that even high-tech equipment of well-known brands allows small errors. For them, there are certain tolerances: the angle washed down - 0.3-0.7 degrees, the inaccuracy of the joint - from 0.1 to 0.5 mm.

Who refuses to buy an electric saw can use the factory miter box. It is a tray made of metal, plastic or wood. With this tool, products are cut under different angle: 90, 45, 30 degrees.

Home craftsmen most often use a miter box

For overlay strips of different materials, select the appropriate hacksaw. Metal, plastic frames are cut with a hacksaw for metal, wooden - with a hacksaw for wood. The quality of the work performed depends on the right tool.

Ways of fastening platbands

Installation is carried out with finishing, liquid nails, self-tapping screws, "beaks".

With finishing nails

This type of fastener has found wide application due to a number of advantages:

  • stealth;
  • ease of installation;
  • does not require experience.

For work, take thin nails about 4 centimeters long, up to 1.5 millimeters in diameter. The distance between them should be 50 cm. Points are marked on the rails with a simple pencil.

After fixing, the nails can be puttied to match the color of the wood, so that the nails will not be visible.

In places of marks, nails are driven in so that they enter the box by 20 mm. If the hats are narrow, then they can be left or, if desired, cut with side cutters. The resulting small depressions are masked with a wax pencil of a suitable color.

The disadvantages of working with finishing nails are:

  1. Difficulty of dismantling. Due to the peculiar structure of the cap, it is almost impossible to get nails.
  2. Less strong connection than conventional nails.
  3. When choosing this method of fastening, also keep in mind that such nails are intended for finishing where there is no bending load.

liquid nails

This method is ideal for MDF framing. It is performed quite simply, does not require certain skills, dexterity.

For the installation of MDF platbands use liquid nails

Liquid nails are applied on the wrong side of the decorative element and attached to the wall. For the glue to grab, you need to hold it for a few minutes, and then fix it with tape.

This type of fastener is good because there are no marks left on the outside of the rails. However, the fastening strength is not as high as when using ordinary nails.

Fastening with self-tapping screws

This method characterized by reliability. It is used for wooden products.

Wooden platbands are fixed with self-tapping screws

Even a beginner in the construction business can handle a self-tapping screw. To do this, you just need to follow the instructions:

  1. Find self-tapping screws with a diameter of 6 millimeters, a length of 2 centimeters.
  2. On the front side of the slats, put marks 50 cm wide from each other.
  3. Drill small holes in the indicated places, and then drill them out a little. This will hide the heads of the screws.
  4. Screw in the screws. If desired, they can be disguised under putty or decorative overlays.

Fastening with "beaks"

The "beak" was nicknamed the platband, which outwardly resembles the Russian letter "G".

This method is very simple. It lies in the fact that the largest section of the part is placed in a recess specially designed for this and snapped into place.

The disadvantage of fastening with "beaks" is the gradual delamination of the structural element. Under the influence of the fastening itself, the strips begin to collapse at the junction points. As a result, there is a need for additional fasteners with glue.

Docking methods

There are 3 mounting methods.

Docking angle 45˚

During installation, it is impossible to do without trimming the sections in which the individual parts of the kit are connected. A 45 degree cut is the most commonly used. It is ideal for any type of finish, successfully hiding cut areas.

45˚ joint hides cut areas

The platbands are connected at an angle of 90 degrees. The top trim board is placed between the right and left sides.

Docking at 90˚ with simulated jumper

This installation method is used to create unusual design interior.

Great for historical imitation

Installation instructions for wooden architraves

You can make a door trim not only with the help of a master, but also with your own hands. To avoid mistakes, strictly follow the algorithm.

Stage 1. Preparatory work.

With a construction knife, clean the surface of the doorway from the protruding mounting foam. Then walk with an even rail around its entire perimeter, look at the position of the wall and the box. Existing problems will be solved during the installation of the frame.

Step 2. Mark the location of the overlay strips.

The overlay strips are installed in such a way that the rounded corners of the door frame remain visible.

Platband installation

And the straight lines from the side of the extension should coincide with the corners of the decorative element.

Pay special attention to the fact that the platbands do not interfere with the operation of the hinges, the lock "screwdriver" of the door. Attach the planks and mark with a pencil above the box above the joint angle at a distance of approximately 3 mm. The indicated places show the height of the vertical and the width of the horizontal elements of the decor at the lower docking corners.

Sometimes, during installation, dobors receive numerous damages. To hide them, experts advise putting marks on the door elements two millimeters below the corner. If there are no defects, then install the strips to them flush.

Step 3. Attach vertical strips to the marks and mark them at the desired height.

After measuring the platbands, number them and put the numbers on the wall in the appropriate place. This will allow you not to confuse them in the process of work.

Step 4. Cut the vertical parts of the structure at an angle of 45˚.

The cut should be even, without chips. When cutting, consider the kerf width as it can be up to 3 mm in some tools. Therefore, make an appropriate indent from the label.

Trimming of vertical strips is done taking into account the width of the cut

Step 5: Attach the vertical and then the horizontal elements.

First fix the vertical bars, and then the horizontal ones.

Installation instructions for plastic trim

To make your own plastic trim, strictly follow the scheme:

Due to the fittings, the joints look beautiful, so there is no need to use sealant to close the gaps.

Aligning the plane of the casing with the wall

Our builders do not always adhere to standards, so there are many shortcomings. One of the most common are curved walls. What to do when the wall and the box are not parallel to each other?

If the error is very small, then it is not difficult to solve the problem. For this you need:

  • Press the decorative rail against the box, measure the size of the gap that appears between it and the wall. If it is not more than 3 mm, then the disadvantage is eliminated without special construction work.
  • Find a narrow lining. It should be the same thickness as the gap. Put it on the desktop of a saw or miter box. The lining will lift one side of the casing during washing down.
  • Press the patch bar as tightly as possible to the work table, cut the end at an angle of 45 degrees and with a slight slope in relation to the surface. Thus, the joint of the overhead strips will be sealed and sealant will not be needed to eliminate gaps.

The situation is worse if there is a large error between the wall and the door frame. Then you will have to eliminate it in one of the following ways:

  • Dismantle the wall, make a niche for the frame if the box is deeper than the wall surface. To do this, attach the overhead strips to the box, draw lines along the wall along them. Then, using a grinder, cut this line, make grooves around the entire perimeter of the door. Constantly check their depth. If the niche turns out to be deeper than necessary, seal it with a cement mortar.
  • Correct the deficiency with a planer if the purchased planks of wood are too thick.

Installation of finishes is a troublesome business, but you can’t sacrifice anything to create home comfort.

Doors, despite the external simplicity, are very demanding in installation. The slightest mistake can lead to disastrous consequences. Incorrectly taken dimensions, cuts made cannot be corrected, and you will have to do everything again using other materials. The gaps formed due to an erroneous sawing off cannot be eliminated with a sealant.

Even if this masks external defects, the structure will not be strong due to a loose fit to the surface. As a result, the load on the bars is significantly increased, and the service life of the door is reduced. In order to prevent such a situation, it is necessary to assemble the door frame with your own hands, strictly observing step by step instructions. It is important not only to correctly, but also very carefully and accurately perform all installation work.

The base-box must match the parameters of the door (width and height) in order to provide full coverage and support for the structure. An important nuance relative to the canvas is the purpose of the room for which it is intended. Because ventilation requirements will depend on it. In steam rooms and baths, doors must provide reliable thermal insulation, so the opening is sealed as tightly as possible.

The bathroom, on the contrary, needs to be well ventilated so that excess moisture does not accumulate and mold does not appear. Therefore, the gap between the box and the door should be slightly wider. Good ventilation is also required for rooms in which gas equipment is installed.

To ensure reliable protection against heat leakage, a rectangular frame is constructed from four bars, which will serve as a box for the door. The vertical posts will become a loop and feigned element, and the transverse ones will become the upper support and threshold.

For free movement of the leaf, the gap between the door and the uprights should be about 3 mm. In cases where air flow into the room is necessary, the box is assembled from three bars, and a gap of about 10-15 mm is made at the threshold. A standard distance of 3 mm is left along the uprights and lintels.

The box with threshold assembly is slightly higher than without it. The difference is about 20 mm. It is important to take into account this nuance so that you do not have to shorten the door. Because it is possible to adjust the canvas only if it is made of wood.

The gap between the door frame and the opening must be at least 10 mm on each side so that the structure can be easily installed and fixed.

Required Tools

A do-it-yourself door frame was installed with the help of various tools, many owners have some of them, but what is missing will have to be rented or purchased.

  • Miter box. A device that allows you to cut timber at different angles.
  • Pencil, tape measure, construction tape.
  • Acrylic paint on wood.
  • Mounting foam, for sealing the box.
  • Chisel, for making cuts under the hinges.
  • Perforator, drill, screwdriver.
  • Nail puller, crowbar, hammer. For demolition work.
  • Miter saw, hacksaw and utility knife.
  • Building level.

Dismantling

If the doors are not installed in a new room, but the structure is being replaced. Then you can install the door frame with your own hands only after the old one has been removed. The door frame is dismantled in the following order:

  1. The platbands are removed, and the elements of the box are disassembled.
  2. Fasteners and anchor bolts are unscrewed.
  3. The strength of the opening is checked and, if necessary, its strengthening is carried out.

It is worth disassembling the door frame very carefully in order not to damage anything and thereby increase the amount of installation work in the future. If it is necessary to replace the door frame, it is recommended to dismantle it in advance so that there is time to prepare the opening. It is almost impossible to remove the door frame without damaging it. Therefore, after removing the old components, you will need to install new ones.

How to assemble a door frame?

The assembly diagram will help to make a door frame from blanks correctly.

The box must be enlarged with an extension if the width of the wall is more than 70 mm, and the platbands are placed on both sides.

If an MDF door frame is being assembled, all fixing work must be carried out with pre-drilling so that cracks and chips do not form on the product.

How to cut a door frame at 45 degrees?

Elements with a rounded section are sawn at an angle of 45◦. In order to make the correct cut, use a miter box or a miter saw with a rotating table.

Do-it-yourself door frames can be assembled without the use of special tools. In such cases, you can cut off the desired angle without a miter box, using a ruler and a protractor for marking.

During installation, the structure is fixed with self-tapping screws, which are screwed in at an angle.

Assembly of the box at an angle of 90 degrees

With this option, the assembly of the door frame is easy and fast.

  • It is necessary to saw off the required size of the racks and the horizontal crossbar at a right angle.
  • Select the excess part of the narthex.

  • Place the elements of the box on the floor, align and secure at the ends with self-tapping screws (2 in each).

In order for all sides to remain parallel to the door frame, you can attach the door and check how it will stand in the opening. The connection of the door frame at 90 degrees is considered by experts to be a quick installation technology.

Threshold box assembly

There is no significant difference between installing door frames with and without a threshold. Thresholds have recently lost their relevance. But, despite this, there are many fans of such a system. This is explained by the fact that it is stronger and more reliable than a design without a lower transverse bar. Such systems can withstand significant loads and are suitable for installing solid wood doors. Thresholds are considered a prerequisite for bathrooms. Regardless of which type of construction is chosen, each person will be able to assemble an interior door frame.

  • Prepare vertical and horizontal strips in advance.
  • Cut at 45 or 90 degrees.
  • Prepared elements are placed on a flat surface.
  • Alternately fasten the racks and crossbars with self-tapping screws.

How to properly install a door frame?

The installation of the door frame is carried out after a preliminary check of its compliance with the dimensions of the opening in the wall.

  • In the event that everything fits, the door frame is installed in the opening.
  • Using a hydraulic level, check the verticality of the racks and the horizontalness of the crossbars.

  • Wedges are installed around the entire perimeter of the structure (about 15 pcs.). Spacer for door frames increases strength.

  • Make markings for attachment points. Holes are drilled on the bars and walls along it. Many experts attach the door frame to the wall in places where the hinges and the striker of the lock are located. This allows not to violate the integrity and appearance of the product.

  • The door frame is fastened with anchor bolts, which are inserted into the holes and tightened with a screwdriver or wrench (depending on the type of fastener). The structure must be fixed very carefully.

  • Screw the hinges and hang the canvas. At correct installation opening and closing the door will be easy.

  • The gap between the block and the wall is filled with mounting foam.

The reciprocal metal bar of the lock is installed at different stages: during assembly or when the structure is already fixed. The second method will be more correct and accurate.

  • Cover the doors and mark with a pencil the location of the tongue or magnet.
  • With a chisel or pen drill, make the necessary hole. Too deep is not necessary, the main thing is that the tongue fits and holds the door.
  • According to the dimensions of the reciprocal plate, a sample is made and installed, fixing it with self-tapping screws. It is not necessary to mount the element very deeply, this will spoil the appearance.

  • Gaps are filled with sealant.

What else is important to know?

Not every person will succeed the first time to qualitatively install the door frame. But do not despair. Because many flaws can be eliminated.

  1. If there is an ugly seam, you can close the joint between the laminate and the door frame with a plinth or a special flexible threshold.
  2. If the box does not fit into the opening, then the racks and cross bars can be cut a little.
  3. Platbands allow you to beautifully close the gap between the door frame and the wall. If their width is not enough, you will have to plaster and decorate the gap.
  4. To install the interior door frame in concrete wall or from a brick, it is impossible to do without a puncher. If the MDF door frame is installed first on the slats, using a drill, holes are made and only then they work with a puncher.
  5. Fastening a door frame to a wooden wall is much easier than to other materials. In this case, a puncher for drilling holes is not useful. You just need to screw the door frame to the wall with the help of anchors. The main thing to consider is that over time, wooden buildings can shrink a lot.
  6. To facilitate the installation process, special mounting systems for door frames have been created. Thanks to them, the structure can be placed in walls made of any material without using wedges and spacers. This kit includes flush-mounted fasteners, detailed step-by-step instructions and diagrams. Using the system, even a beginner can insert the door frame.
