How to turn on an electrolux instantaneous water heater. How to properly turn on a storage and instantaneous water heater

Not all apartments and houses have uninterrupted hot water supply. Their residents sometimes find it impossible to take a shower or bath. An instantaneous water heater will help them cope with this problem. You can install it in the bathroom yourself.

Selecting a location

First of all, an instantaneous water heater requires sufficient power to operate. They range from 1 to 27 kW and usually require a new network installation and connection to the electrical panel. In apartments, single-phase non-pressure flow devices are most often used, the power of which is up to 4-6 kW.

If you constantly do not have warm water in your apartment, then you should choose a more powerful model, preferably a pressure type, or consider purchasing a storage tank.

It should be said that low-power instantaneous water heaters usually have one phase, and devices with a power of 11 kW or more are three-phase. If your home has only one phase, then you can only install a single-phase device.

The choice of location where the instantaneous water heater will be installed depends on its type: free-flow or pressure. Most often, in order to ensure washing in the shower during water outages, non-pressure models are installed in bathrooms.

Of course, they are not capable of giving such pressure hot water, which provides centralized supply hot water or pressure water heater. But the flow of heated water that the free-flowing look will provide you with is quite enough to wash yourself.

Important! You should use exactly the shower head that comes with the non-pressure water heater - it has fewer holes. A regular shower head may barely produce water.

The non-pressure model is installed near the place of consumption of the water heated by it. Usually this is a place above or below the washbasin, on the side. The following aspects are taken into account:
  • it should not be exposed to splashes from the shower. Devices marked IP 24 and IP 25 are protected from water ingress, but it is not advisable to install them in flooded areas;
  • access to control, regulation;
  • ease of use of the shower (faucet) to which there is a connection;
  • ease of connection to central water supply;
  • the strength of the wall to which the device will be attached. Typically, the weight of such water heaters is small, but the wall must ensure its reliable fastening. Brick, concrete, wooden walls usually there is no doubt, but drywall may not be suitable;
  • evenness of the wall. On very curved surfaces it is sometimes difficult to install the device correctly.

A pressure water heater is capable of serving several water consumption points at once. Its installation is carried out next to the riser or water collection point. Such a device has more power than a non-pressure device. It can have both upper and lower connections, but to install and connect such a model, it is better to contact specialists.

Instantaneous water heaters are gas and electric. Mainly used electrical devices, since for gas it is necessary that the project provides geyser and the presence of a gas pipeline, as well as installation, must be agreed with the city gas service.

Did you know? One of the first methods of heating water was stones heated over a fire, which were immersed in a container of water.

Installation of fasteners

Having chosen where the suitable place is, you should perform the following steps:

  • Determine the mounting locations using a level and make marks. Be sure to check them with the mounting plate included in the kit (if there is one);
  • using a drill, drill holes in the wall at the previously designated locations;
  • dowels are inserted into the holes;
  • screws are screwed into the dowels;
  • Our water heater is attached to the screws.

Water heater installation

To connect a single-phase instantaneous water heater to electricity, you will need to measure the required cable length from the electrical panel to the place where the device is used. Typically, for such purposes, a three-core copper cable with a cross-section of 3x2.5 mm is used, but the power of the water heater itself should also be taken into account. Approximate cross-section values depending on power are provided in the table.
For safe operation of the device (after all, it will be used in a room with high humidity), you will also need automatic protection for this connection (RCD). For the same reason, there must be grounding.

You should choose a socket that is not cheap, waterproof, and can withstand a current of 25A. If there is no plug, you must install it yourself. The plug must be selected with a grounding pin.

  1. First, connect the cable to the switched off device through the special hole and hang the device on the wall.
  2. Strip the ends of the wires and connect to the terminal box according to the instructions. It is very important to connect all three wires (phase, working zero and ground) to their designated socket. Tighten them with the machine screws.
  3. Connect the other end of the cable to the terminals of the electrical panel through the RCD in the same way as in the device - phase to phase, zero to zero, ground to ground.

Important! The operation of such a heater places a large load on the network, and it is undesirable to turn it on simultaneously with other devices that have high power consumption.

All work on connecting to the electrical network is carried out in the absence of voltage in the network.

If you have a washing machine with a socket that has a separate connection to the panel via an RCD, then you just need to connect a cable with a plug to this socket to the device.

Connection technology

Before work related to cutting into water pipes, the water should be turned off.

There are two ways to connect a non-pressure model:

  • using a shower hose. The nozzle is removed from the hose and attached to the inlet of the device. This method is good for occasional outages of hot water;
  • through a tee. The tee is cut into a water pipe or attached to an outlet for washing machine. A valve or ball valve is attached to the tee (if there is a washing machine, two valves or valves). From it stretches to the inlet of the water heater plastic pipe or a special hose. A hose with a shower head is installed at the outlet. If you want to use the water heater constantly, then such a tee with a valve is cut into the hot water pipe at the outlet.
Storage-type instantaneous water heaters cut into water pipes with fittings. The connections should be sealed using tow or fume tape.

Did you know? In the ancient Roman baths there was centralized system heating using a stove, water and air, which then circulated in the voids of the walls and floor. This system came to the Romans from the Hellenes, but was improved by Roman engineers.

System check

Before starting the system for the first time, you should check:

  • strength of fastenings;
  • cable connection is correct. If there are testers, check that the electrical connection is correct;
  • tightness of connections. Special attention make sure the lid over the water heater's terminal box is sealed;
  • water pressure.

Trial run

  1. Before starting the pressure model, you should shut off the hot water supply pipe to the apartment. Open the cold and hot water valves on the water heater.
  2. Open the valve on a non-pressure model with a shower head. Before any start-up, the water heater must be filled with water.
  3. When turned on, the faucet turns on first, and then the water heater. And when you turn it off, first turn off the device and then turn off the water.
  4. Select the required power for heating water.
  5. Turn on the water and then the water heater and wait a few minutes for the water to heat up. Make sure normal operation device and the absence of leakage in the connections.
  6. Turn off the device and turn off the water.

1. Select and measure as accurately as possible the location where you plan to install the water heater.

2. Determine how many water points the water heater will operate on (bathroom sink, kitchen sink, shower, etc.) - this directly affects the choice of power and the connection process.

3. Be sure to find out the electrical wiring capabilities of your apartment - cable cross-section and material, maximum permissible load. If you don't know how to do this yourself, consult an electrician. This is especially important if you choose a tankless water heater. It is necessary to understand that if the capabilities of the existing electrical wiring are insufficient, you will need to lay a new separate cable from the electrical panel to ensure a safe connection. An important fact is the grounding of the device.

Calculation of the cross-section of the electrical cable for connecting electrical appliances.

Connecting household appliances high power necessarily requires laying a separate electrical cable from the distribution panel.

Remember! If you are trying to connect a high-power instantaneous water heater to a washing machine outlet or to an outlet that has a electric stove, you risk getting burnt wiring, which in turn can lead to a fire.

Using the table, you can select the minimum cable cross-section that should be used to connect your electrical appliance. The table assumes the use of a copper cable with a voltage of 220 V, 1 phase, 2 cores.

Attention: if instead of copper you use aluminum wire, you must apply a magnifying factor of 1.3-1.5.

4. If your tap water is no different good quality, it is strongly recommended to install filters that purify the water before entering the water heater. Otherwise, the “life” of the water heater will be significantly less than that declared by the manufacturer.

5. Determine for yourself the type of water heater (storage or instantaneous), choose a design (round, rectangular, flat, etc.), and also decide on performance. See advice.

6. Depending on the installation location of the storage water heater, determine whether you need a wall-mounted or floor-mounted, vertical or horizontal water heater.

7. If you plan to install the device yourself, you will need to purchase additional materials (electrical wire, automatic power switch, water supply, taps, etc.).

In any case, the installation of a specific storage or instantaneous water heater must be carried out strictly in accordance with the instructions supplied with the device. It describes the required number of holes on the wall, the number and features of fasteners, the sequence of connecting hoses, their size and location (vertically, horizontally), as well as other important information.

8. The storage water heater must be especially firmly fixed on hooks (bolts), without the possibility of moving to the sides.

9. All connections between the water heater and the water supply must be sealed.

10. The water supply can be connected to a plastic, metal-plastic, steel or copper pipe. Not recommended for use flexible liner rubber hoses due to their rapid wear.

11. When turning on the instantaneous water heater, you must make sure that there is water in the water supply. When turning on the storage water heater, you need to make sure that the tank is full.

2 Electric storage water heater and its installation

1. It is necessary to think in advance and measure very accurately the installation location of the water heater.

2. In small apartments and bathrooms, water heaters are most often installed in plumbing cabinets, kitchen niches, and sometimes hung from the ceiling in a horizontal position. If there is very little space in the apartment to install a water heater, you can choose a model with a reduced diameter or flat design.

3. In most cases, water heaters with a volume of up to 200 liters are wall-mounted, and those above 200 liters are floor-mounted.

4. Wall-mounted water heaters with a volume of more than 50 liters are recommended to be installed on a load-bearing wall. The device is suspended by the housing bracket on anchor bolts (hooks) fixed in the wall (not included in the delivery package). To install vertical models (30-100 liters), two hooks are used. The distance between the hooks should be 180 mm. Horizontal models (50 - 200 liters) are installed on four hooks using the loops provided in the EWH brackets. To service the EWH, the distance from the protective cover to the nearest surface in the direction of the axis of the removable flange must be at least:
- 30 centimeters - for models 5-80 liters;
- 50 centimeters - for models 100-200 liters.

Horizontal water heaters, as a rule, have a volume of no more than 150 liters.

It is impossible to install a vertical water heater in a horizontal position!

5. Very often, storage water heaters are installed in some niche or plumbing cabinet, and therefore access to the device can be difficult. In this case, you should think about the quality of the water heater in order to spend a minimum of effort on maintenance in the future and avoid repairing a hard-to-reach device.

Attention!
Do not forget about installing a safety valve - a device designed to protect against mechanical destruction of equipment (water heater) and pipelines due to excess pressure. The safety valve performs its function by releasing excess water from the system at a pressure above the set pressure. The valve also ensures that water discharge stops when operating pressure is restored.

When installing the water heater in rooms that do not have waterproofed floors and drainage channels, it is necessary to install a protective tray under the device with drainage into the sewer system and connect the drainage pipe to the drain hole of the safety valve.

The drainage tube and protective pan are usually not included in the delivery package and must be selected by the consumer independently.

Connection to water supply

Attention!
If the water supplied to the water heater does not meet the standard tap water, a filter must be installed at the inlet of the water heater, the type and parameters of which can be selected by the service technician.

Screw the safety valve onto the cold water inlet pipe, marked in blue, 3.5-4 turns, ensuring the tightness of the connection with any waterproofing material (linen, FUM tape, etc.). Connection to the water supply system is made only using a special flexible plumbing line, as well as flexible plastic or copper pipes. During installation, excessive force on the water heater pipes is not allowed to avoid damage to the pipes and the porcelain coating of the internal tank. After connecting, open the cold water supply valve to the water heater and the hot water tap on the mixer. When the device is completely filled, water will flow from the mixer tap in a continuous stream. When connecting a water heater in places without running water, you can supply water to the water heater from an auxiliary tank, placing it at a height of at least 5 meters from the top point of the device.

3 Electric instantaneous water heater and its installation

1. The first thing you need to pay attention to when connecting an instantaneous water heater is the electrical wiring. It is recommended that before purchasing the device, you find out the maximum load of the electrical network in the apartment and, if necessary, install an additional circuit breaker on the electrical panel, run a separate wire through it and provide grounding. More information about cable selection was written at the beginning this advice.

2. The performance of an instantaneous water heater directly depends on its power.

Power and performance of instantaneous water heaters

First of all, you need to determine how much hot water you will need. Water consumption in a family of 2 adults will be significantly lower than in a family with small children, and water consumption in a city apartment is much less than in a large one. country house. It is necessary to take into account the individual characteristics and habits of users. Contact sales consultants if you find it difficult to make calculations yourself.

Attention!

  • It is strictly not recommended to replace any components included in the instantaneous water heater. By replacing, for example, a hose with a watering can in the device, you will violate throughput water heater for which it is designed. For this reason, the water will not heat up properly.
  • Under no circumstances should you shut off the water outlet to prevent it from boiling inside the appliance.
  • When planning to purchase an instantaneous water heater, you should consider that it can increase the water temperature by about 20 degrees. Those. If you want to supply very cold (for example, spring) water to the device, then you will not be able to get hot water at the outlet - it will only be warm.

Many of us have repeatedly faced the problem of emergency shutdown of hot water. Agree, it is quite inconvenient to heat water in a pan in order to wash dishes or take a swim. But if the family is large, then this can become a real problem.

But there is a way out - instantaneous water heaters. They help increase the level of comfort in city apartments and provide hot water all year round country houses. Let's figure out how to install a instantaneous water heater with your own hands, which any home craftsman can handle.

We will talk about the principles of operation of the heater and what factors need to be taken into account when choosing it. Let's consider the features of connecting electrical and gas equipment. Here you will find video installation instructions to help you understand the installation better.

If you are planning to install water heating equipment yourself, you must become familiar with its structure and operating principle.

Heating water in a flow-type device is quite simple: cold water from the water supply passes through the heating elements and at the outlet has a temperature several times higher than the initial value.

For example, water with a temperature of + 10º C is heated to a temperature comfortable for taking a shower - + 36-40º C. The parameters are adjusted using control buttons located on the front side of the case.

A household appliance for heating water is installed in an apartment, country house or on private dacha. The selection and installation of a water heater depends on the number of people living in the room.

Even though the installation process itself is simple, but without experience it is problematic to carry out the installation efficiently. Therefore, it is better to read the instructions, read tips and recommendations.

Generalized work plan for connecting a water heater

Standard actions:

  1. Choose the most suitable place in terms of size and location. It is necessary to measure all planes with a reserve for the water heater.
  2. Find out the exact number of water intake outlets. This means a bathroom, sinks, showers, etc. The power and complexity of the connection process depend on the number of points.
  3. Electrical wiring information. It is better to know the cable cross-section and its maximum loads. The fact is that careless handling of electricity in the house can lead to accidents. To be more confident, invite an electrician for a consultation and find out exactly how to connect the water heater and whether it is possible to connect a heater of the declared power. If a specialist says that the voltage is weak, then you need to “throw” a new cable individually.
  4. Quality of the supplied liquid. The water entering the boiler tanks should ideally be filtered. If the water quality is low, it is better to install primitive filter elements in the system to preserve the working surfaces of the heater.
  5. Find out for yourself exactly which heater is better: with a storage system or a flow-through one. Moreover, size and manufacturer will also play a role.
  6. You will have to choose not only between models, but the type of device will also force you to think about your choice. You need to decide between wall, floor, vertical or horizontal type.
  7. The device should be fixed as firmly as possible to the surface. It is correct if it does not move when touched, and its movement in different directions is strictly prohibited by safety precautions.
  8. The water heating system must be completely sealed.
  9. It is not recommended to use low quality hoses for the liner. Optimal material for such elements - steel, copper, metal-plastic or plastic.
  10. First start-up and further use strictly if there is liquid in the riser or water supply.

How to install an electric storage heater

For those who decide to do this work themselves, advice! Under no circumstances problematic situations Do not install a vertical device in a horizontal position and vice versa!

It is most convenient and correct to connect a storage water heater this way:

  1. Preliminary assessment of the installation site.
  2. A room with a small area, as a rule, does not have much space for household appliances. In this case, connecting the water heater to the water supply in the apartment is carried out in hidden niches or plumbing cabinets.
  3. Equipment with a volume of up to 200 liters can be of the mounted type. Devices with a large volume are installed strictly on the floor, otherwise a breakage is inevitable.
  4. It is better to attach a water heater from 50 to 100 liters to load-bearing wall. Use an anchor bolt for fastening. Such fasteners must be purchased additionally, because they are not included in the kit. In no case should you save money on an expensive device. The more brackets for the heater are fixed, the more reliable the operation will be from year to year. For mounted models of 100 liters or more there must be at least 4 brackets.
  5. If you decide to place the device in a hard-to-reach place, then think about maintenance in advance. A low-quality model will have to be repaired frequently, and this is not convenient to do in hard-to-reach places.

A safety valve must be installed. It will protect the system from mechanical damage and excess pressure. The principle of operation is simple - excess water is removed when high blood pressure. In other words, the water is released to the operating pressure of the system.

How to turn on an already installed heater

So, there is a need to use . You need to do the following:

  1. Close the hot water valve installed on the riser. If this is not done, the water treated by the device will flow into common system water supply When closing the valve, a specific sound will be heard confirming the blockage.
  2. Next, open the valves to the water heater. First comes with cold water, then open the tap that supplies water from the boiler to the drains.
  3. After these manipulations, turn on the device to the network. Popular models of boilers and water heaters will automatically start working when the water is supplied correctly.

Sequence in the diagram:

It is better not to perform questionable actions or open taps not according to instructions if you are not sure or if you are encountering a household appliance for the first time. Sometimes it’s cheaper to call a technician to even turn on 3 taps and start the device than to pay renovation work after leaks.

How to connect a storage water heater at the dacha

Installing heating elements in a dacha implies low-pressure water supply in the system. Unfortunately, without a pressure of several atmospheres, it is impossible to connect and operate a storage water heater using the classical method. There is a working approach for this situation.

Boiler tanks are filled with water thanks to a container that is installed separately from the water heater. Using a check valve in such a circuit is impossible.

Additional capacity is selected by volume. It should be several times the volume of the heater tank or tanks. The container for creating pressure should not be closed (vacuum). Simply put, you need to drill holes in it.

It is more practical to provide such a tank or container with a float valve to regulate the water level.

The connection from the container to must be equipped with a tap or valve.

The pressure tank is most often installed in the attic. The main condition for the system to operate with an additional tank is the location of the pressure tank above 2 meters from the boiler.

When installing a water heating element in a country house or in a house for periodic residence, before the onset of cold weather, you will need to drain the liquids from the tanks!

Any water heater is demanding on conductivity electrical network. It's about about the cross-section of the cable, namely about the copper core of the wire. Its thickness should start from 2.5 millimeters.

A high-quality network connection is impossible without a fuse or protective device. Any heater model must be equipped with an RCD device (residual current device).

The classic way to connect to the network is to plug it into the nearest outlet. It is important to establish grounding. To do this, use a three-pole socket with a moisture-resistant function.

The classic method is suitable for water heaters with low power. Powerful models are not designed for this method. They will, at a minimum, heat up the outlet.

Systematic heating of the socket will lead to weakening of the contacts and a spark. A spark will cause the plastic socket to ignite, the heating element to break, or the power supply system to ignite.

It's better to take care of safety in advance. To do this you need to bring electrical cable the required section individually. In this case, a wire is installed from the electrical panel to the boiler without additional sockets or branches.

Without plugs and sockets, disconnection is possible only through an automation device. Although the main function of the machine is the safety and safe use of the water heater.

If the kit does not include a fuse, then you need to purchase a device with a calculated sensitivity level. If you install a fuse with low sensitivity, then permanent shutdown of the boiler for no reason cannot be avoided.

For powerful water heaters, 16 ampere fuses are installed.

In the process of purchasing the right water heater, it is better to decide in advance how further installation will take place. When installing it yourself, you should never ignore safety precautions. If you have the slightest doubt, it is better not to save money, but to call experienced specialists.

An instantaneous or storage electric water heater, as a rule, requires minimal intervention in its operation, except for those cases when preventive measures are required.

Often the boiler is installed as a backup option during periods when the centralized hot water supply is turned off and is used only a few times a year. In this case, the sequence of actions to turn on the device is simply forgotten. But often, its service life depends on how correctly all the steps to start the water heater are completed. That is why we remind you of the basic rules for water heaters of all types.

Turning on the storage water heater

If you live in a house with a centralized supply of hot water, be sure to turn off the tap on the riser, otherwise the entire entrance will use the water heated by your boiler. It is also recommended to close the tap if there is a check valve. Then, if it fails, you will not receive increased electricity bills.

Further actions are performed according to the following scenario:

  • Open the tap on any hot water faucet (mixer) and make sure that the remaining water goes down the drain safely. A slight constant leakage indicates a leak in the shut-off valves. In this case, replace the inlet tap, otherwise hot water from the boiler will constantly flow into the riser.
  • Turn off the hot water at the faucet.
  • Open the cold water supply to the water heater. If the connection of your boiler is done “smartly”, then you can do all these operations practically without moving.
  • After the water heater tank is filled (indicated by the cessation of noise), be sure to open the “hot” valve on the mixer and remove air from the system. A smooth stream of water without bubbles indicates that the pipeline has been successfully “aired”.
  • Connect the device to the electrical network. Remember that this should only be done after it is completely filled, otherwise the tubular electric heater may burn out. Of course, if your boiler is equipped with a protection system against turning on without water, then nothing will happen. However, is it worth tempting fate on purpose?
  • Set the required operating mode of the device.

After connecting to the network, be sure to check that the indicator lamp lights up, indicating that voltage is supplied to the heating element. After this, look at the initial temperature of the water in the tank. After 20-30 minutes, check this indicator again. An increase in temperature indicates that the device is operational and that it was turned on correctly.

All that remains is for you to check the operation of the safety valve and the cleanliness of the drain tube after complete heating. During the heating process, a slight leak of liquid should be observed from it - this indicates that the valve is operational and successfully relieves excess pressure.

Putting the instantaneous water heater into operation

Before turning on the instantaneous water heater, be sure to find out what type of device (pressure or non-pressure) it belongs to. If the boiler is installed by inserting into the system to provide hot water supply to several points simultaneously, then turning it on is in many ways similar to the option with a storage water heater:

  • Close the hot water supply tap on the riser;
  • Open the hot tap on the mixer;
  • Turn on the cold water supply to the water heater;
  • After a smooth, powerful stream appears, turn off the mixer;
  • Plug in the water heater and set its operating mode;
  • Check the operation of the device by opening the “hot” valve.

As you can see, turning on a pressure-type instantaneous water heater is as easy as a storage boiler.

If your “flow-through” is a device with a shower head or spout, then turning it on is even easier. It is enough to pass through the machine cold water to force all the air out of the heater and then apply power to it. After you are sure that the device is working properly, adjust the pressure with the valve and the power with the regulator on its panel.

The best way to turn off a instantaneous water heater of this type is to first turn off the power, and after 10-20 seconds, turn off the water supply. This procedure will prevent the heating element of the device from overheating, and it will last much longer.

Sometimes it is possible that when the device is turned on, the water does not heat up. In this case, you should make sure that the overheating sensor has not tripped. Most often this happens when there is insufficient “de-airing” of the hot water supply pipeline.

The overheating sensor is a mechanically activated thermocouple, so when it is triggered, you must wait until the heating element cools down, and then press the “Reset” button on the control panel. After this, the water heater should work normally.

Useful video on connecting the unit into operation:

Finally, I would like to say a few words about safety. Remember that electricity next to water is an extremely dangerous neighborhood. That is why if, when you turn on the water heater, an RCD or circuit breaker is triggered, do not try to ignore the situation or fix the breakdown yourself - be sure to contact an electrician.
