"Regulations on the classification of hotels"

Accommodation facilities play a decisive role in the development of tourism and the formation of a competitive tourism product. The specificity of their activities lies in the fact that they provide tourists with a variety of services to meet the needs of tourists in accommodation, food, recreation, leisure, etc. The main (complex-forming) are accommodation (provision for use of special premises - rooms and related services) and food (as a combination of production, trade and service processes).

An accommodation facility, as defined by the WTO, is any facility (building, premises, etc.) that regularly or occasionally provides accommodation for tourists.

According to the standard international classification, all accommodation facilities are divided into two categories: collective and individual.

Collective accommodation facilities include hotels, establishments similar to hotels, specialized establishments and other accommodation facilities. In each of them, the number of seats must exceed the established minimum (for example, in the Russian Federation - at least 5 rooms, in Italy - 7 rooms). In addition, the accommodation facility must have a single management, and its management must be based on a commercial basis (payment for the provision of accommodation services and additional services provided).

The classic type of collective accommodation facilities is a hotel - an enterprise that provides people outside the home with a range of services, the most important of which are equally accommodation and food services. Hotels are characterized by the following specific features:

  • have a unified leadership;
  • · consist of numbers, the number of which exceeds a certain minimum;
  • In addition to accommodation and housekeeping, they provide related and additional services;
  • · all rooms are grouped into classes or categories depending on the available material and technical base and the services provided; are not included in the category of specialized institutions.

Hospitality enterprises are classified according to various criteria. The most used among them are the following:

  • The level of comfort.
  • · Room capacity.
  • · Functional purpose.
  • · Location.
  • · Duration of work.
  • · Provision of food.
  • · Duration of stay.
  • · Price level.

According to the location of the hotel can be:

  • located within the city (in the center, on the outskirts). Almost all business hotels, luxury hotels, middle-class hotels are central;
  • located on sea coast. IN this case very important is the distance to the sea (50 meters, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300);
  • located in the mountains. Usually these are small hotels in a picturesque mountainous area on a tourist route in the most convenient vacation spot. The mountain hotel, as a rule, contains the necessary equipment for summer and winter holiday its guests, such as climbing and ski equipment, lifts, etc.

According to the duration of the hotel are divided into:

  • operating all year round
  • working two seasons;
  • single-season.

In terms of nutrition, there are:

  • hotels providing full board (accommodation and 3 meals a day);
  • hotels offering accommodation and breakfast only.

According to the length of stay of guests, hotels are distinguished:

  • · for long stay of clients;
  • for a short stay.

According to the level of prices for hotel rooms, they are classified into:

  • budget (25-35 US dollars);
  • economical (35-55 US dollars);
  • medium (55-95 US dollars);
  • first-class (95-195 US dollars);
  • apartment (65-125 US dollars);
  • fashionable (125-425 US dollars).

According to the regulations in force in the Russian Federation on tourism and hospitality, accommodation facilities include hotels, motels, youth hotels (hostels), rest houses, boarding houses, hotels with medical and health services. Classification of hotels (motels) with a capacity of at least 10 rooms is carried out by category.

  • - logistics support;
  • - the range and quality of the services provided;
  • - level of service.

The state classification system divides accommodation facilities into three main types:

  • - hotels, motels, etc. with more than 50 rooms:
  • - hotels, motels, etc. with less than 50 rooms:
  • - rest houses, boarding houses and similar accommodation facilities:
  • - "Five Stars".
  • - "four stars".
  • - "Three Stars".
  • - "two stars".
  • - "one star".

Thus, hotel enterprises are classified according to various criteria, such as comfort level, room capacity, functional purpose, location, working hours, catering, length of stay, price level. Hospitality enterprises can also be classified according to their connection with special means of transportation (transport), by type of property, etc. However, the first place in the classification of hotels is undoubtedly the level of comfort.

In this article will be discussed about the features of the provision of services in hotels. The classification of hotels speaks about the quality of the rooms and the services offered.
Let's consider in more detail.
The hotel room belongs to the accommodation service. The premises are usually multifunctional. Different hotels have different categories of rooms. Regardless of the category, in each room are required: a chair or armchair, a bed (with clean linen), a table, a wardrobe designed for clothes, a wastebasket, lighting (at least general). In addition, there must be information about the hotel itself with an evacuation plan.
Other services are also possible, supplementing the required minimum: a swimming pool, conference rooms, sports equipment, dry cleaning, car rental, medical services, a hairdresser and more. It depends on how they are formed and decorated, what type of enterprise will be: flutel, flotel, botel, rotel, gostiny dvor, boarding house, hotel-garni, motel, etc.
For a more convenient definition, classification features have been created (classification of hotels). Let's highlight the most used ones.

1. Comfort levels - a complex criterion, its terms:
- condition: the area of rooms, the number of single multi-room rooms, the number of suites, the absence or presence of communal amenities directly in the rooms;
- condition of inventory, furniture;
- catering establishments (their availability, condition);
- the state of the building itself, the arrangement of the territory adjacent to this building;
- technical equipment information support;
- Additional services.

Each state has a different approach to understanding comfort, so there is no single classification of hotels. However, there is a standard classification.

2. Number of rooms - the number of places that can be offered at the same time.
Generally accepted hotels are divided into:
- small - (up to 150 seats);
- medium (up to 400 seats);
- large (more than 400 seats).

3. Functional appointment - a decisive criterion, divided into two groups: target and transit. Transit (service during a short stop, with limited comfort) and target:
- business purposes, for servicing those on business trips;
- for recreation (usually resort).

4. Location and view from the room.

5. Duration of activity (year-round, seasonal).

6. Nutritional security:
- "all inclusive" (in addition to accommodation - four meals a day, drinks (including alcoholic ones);
- (in addition to accommodation - three meals a day);
- half board (in addition to accommodation - two meals a day);
- accommodation only, breakfast only.

7. Stay by duration:
- long;
- short term.

8. Price range:
- up to 35 ye - budget;

To date, there are about 30 various systems hotel classification. Each country, as a rule, has its own standards based on cultural and national characteristics.

The most common classifications are:

1) star system. Hotels are divided into categories from one to five stars. The more stars, the more services the hotel provides;

2) letter system. Hotels are divided into four categories, denoted by the letters A, B, C, D;

3) a system of crowns (or keys);

4) point Indian system. Points are given by an expert commission.

In many European countries, as well as China and Egypt, as in Russia, a star hotel classification system is used:

1. One star hotel. These hotels are mostly used by solo travelers. Travel companies almost do not offer such hotels for accommodation. These hotels are usually located on the outskirts or near the center. This is usually a very small hotel (six to ten rooms), which is served by one family. No food is provided here.

2.Two-star hotel. Travel agencies offer such hotels when a tourist needs only bed and breakfast. Sometimes the level of two stars implies the presence of amenities (shower and TV). Breakfast is usually included.

3. Three-star hotel. Such hotels are optimal choice for the majority of travelers. They are the most common throughout the world. The rooms of such hotels are equipped with all amenities (telephone, TV, possibly a mini-bar). The service of hotels in different countries of the world can differ significantly from each other.

4. Four star hotel. These are hotels high level service. They are distinguished by an increased level of comfort and a good location. They are mostly located in the city center. In hotels of this category, as a rule, there are many additional free services. Possibility of unlimited access to the gym, swimming pools. In a four-star hotel, the room looks like an ordinary living room with standard household appliances.

5. A five-star hotel is a city with the infrastructure necessary for life. In such hotels there are several restaurants, bars, a nightclub and shops, as well as hairdressers and laundries, fitness and business centers, swimming pools and beauty parlors. The rooms of a five-star hotel should have a complete set of necessary cosmetics in the bathroom, slippers in front of the bed, mini-bar, telephone, color TV, air conditioning and other luxury items that make life easier.

In Greece, the letter classification system is: A, B, C, D. Category A corresponds to a four-star hotel, category B - to a three-star hotel, C - to a two-star hotel, category D - to a hotel of the highest category. The UK is characterized by the system of "crowns", which is considered the most correct. This classification was proposed by the Association of British Travel Agents. On the facades of hotels, not stars are depicted, but crowns. To find out the category of the hotel, you need to subtract one from the total number of crowns:

1) budget hotels (one crown), they are located in the central part of the city and have a minimum of amenities;

2) tourist class hotels (two crowns) have a bar and a restaurant;

3) middle-class hotels (three crowns) have a high level of service;

4) first class hotels (four crowns);
